Background

The building we acquired for Alpha Place – formerly known as the ‘Power House’ – had been built in the 1940s, and was previously owned by the London Electricity Board.

When it eventually became surplus to requirements, Sager Group took the opportunity to strategically develop the space, reviving it for newfound use as a health suite and apartment complex.

The Scheme

Our planning consultants and architects aspired to design a building that made effective use of the Power House’s existing frame, but with a modern aesthetic more befitting of its contextual neighbourhood surroundings.

The planning permission process was challenging with particular difficulty in maintaining the height of the building as the local authority was seeking conventional houses.

Sager took the planning application through appeal stages and the High Court and was successful in obtaining substantial planning gain.

Features

Sager Group was granted planning permission to create 43 apartments and a 700 square metre health facility in the basement.

We also gained consent for the building’s height, allowing us to make Alpha Place just as prominent as we intended.
